Toby Merrington was born in the midlands, the centre of England, but after growing up around several different areas of the UK, he’s been living in Paris for several years now.
“Moving from home to home gives one the feeling that home is really where you make it, I’ve made my home in Paris for the moment, I feel really at ease in Paris, there’s good vibes to find if you’re looking for that as well as a touch of mystery, it’s ideal for writing and inspiring lyrics. Although I’ve faced many personal challenges in Paris, I’ve always had music as a way of dealing with and understanding my life”
He says “Making music is like having a personal place where only the maker can discover and explore the source. I find throughout the creative process that my experiences and emotions are worked upon, understood and even released, it’s quite cathartic. As well as this it’s really exciting to create something personal and be able to show and share it with other people. Thats when I find the feeling or experience that I’ve tried to capture in my songs are personally set free. It helps me to enjoy my life with a clear mind. This is why I make music and I’ve been doing it since I was a young teenager. The expression and freedom involved is what drives me especially when its difficult to find one’s own voice in the world today.
Toby is preparing several singles which have been recently written. They will be released soon. His influences include Lou Reed, Lenard Cohen, Alain Bashung, Radio Head Bjork and Pj Harvey.
